The Federation of Philippine Industries (FPI) and the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) said Thursday they strongly support the actions of Finance Secretary Frederick Go and Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Charlito Martin Mendoza to fix systemic tax administration issues and protect taxpayer rights.

The organizations welcomed the push by the Department of Finance (DOF) and the BIR to modernize and standardize audit procedures, ensuring predictability, transparency and building a fair, efficient tax system.

The ECCP lauded the temporary suspension of all field audit operations, including the issuance of letters of authority and mission orders. It said the step is a clear signal of the government’s commitment to good governance and addressing longstanding business concerns regarding transparency, consistency, and integrity in tax audits.

FPI chairperson Elizabeth Lee said industries have long contributed to national development but have been constrained by inconsistent audit practices. She noted that a fair and transparent tax system could unlock that potential, safeguard taxpayer rights and build lasting trust for growth, adding that clarity and fairness reassure investors of the country’s commitment to accountability.

The ECCP also expressed readiness to work with the DOF and the BIR’s newly formed technical working group, saying these reforms would support an audit environment that upholds taxpayer rights while allowing the BIR to meet revenue goals through fair and transparent processes.

Both groups also affirmed their willingness to engage with the government to advance reforms that strengthen competitiveness and foster a more rules-based and inclusive Philippine economy.
